High‑rise residents: tell us if you can evacuate safely

If you live in a high‑rise building, we need you to tell us whether you can self‑evacuate using the stairs in an emergency.

Posted | 6 May 2026

We’ve written to all customers in high‑rise buildings this month, and we’re now asking anyone who hasn’t got in touch yet to act now.

This is a legal requirement under new fire safety regulations and helps keep you, your neighbours, and emergency services safe.

Why we're asking

From 6 April 2026, new fire safety laws require housing providers to have up‑to‑date evacuation information for high‑rise residents. To meet these rules, we must hear from every household in affected buildings.

What you need to do

We ask one simple question:

  • In an emergency, could you and everyone in your household evacuate using the stairs without support?
    • Answer Yes if you can
    • Answer No if anyone in your household may need help

If you answer “No”, we’ll contact you to talk about next steps and any support that may be needed.
