Priorities for your neighbourhood
Based on your feedback, we’ve agreed the following priorities to focus on in your area.
We’ll be sharing updates on how we progress with these priorities over on our social media channels.
Priority 1: Rightsizing support
We know some households in Longsight are living in homes that are either too big or too small for their needs, including those affected by the bedroom tax. We’re offering one‑to‑one support to help people understand their options and decide whether moving to a home that suits them better might be helpful.
Any conversation is completely voluntary and based on your individual needs. Our aim is to help you live in a home that feels right, is affordable, and works
for you. If you think this could apply to you, please contact your Neighbourhood Officer.
Priority 2: Tackling anti-social behaviour
We’ll continue working closely with residents and the Police to tackle anti‑social behaviour in the area.
Our goal is to help make Longsight feel safer, calmer, and more comfortable for everyone who lives here.
Priority 3: Tackling issues with pests in your area
You’ve told us you’re experiencing issues with pest problems in your local area. We’re committed to dealing with them properly. We work closely with Manchester City Council, who provide our pest control service, to address the root causes. Some issues come from external environmental factors, and we’re working with the Council to put long‑term solutions in place. Their Environmental Health team is also speaking with local businesses to make sure waste is being managed correctly.
We’ll keep monitoring the situation, take action where needed, and keep you updated as things progress.
You said, we're doing
Over the last few months, we’ve been out in the community listening to you. We held in-person focus groups, workshops and surveys with residents, local groups and partners to understand what matters most in your area.
You told us about:
- What you like about your area
- What you’d change or improve
- How safe you feel day to day
Using everything you shared with us, we’ve agreed the key priorities for your neighbourhood. Below, you’ll see what you told us and what we’re doing in response.

"We’re worried about how our local area looks and feels."
We're doing:
We want to work with you to make things better. We doing this in a range of ways include:
- Tackling fly‑tipping and alleyway problems - We’ll keep a close eye on hotspots like Norman Grove, Stanley Grove and Fencot Drive. If we spot problems, we’ll take action quickly to get things sorted.
- Community clean‑up days - We’ll be organising regular clean‑up events to help keep the area looking cared for. We’ll share dates and details in advance, and everyone is welcome to join in, even an hour makes a difference.
- Neighbourhood inspections - Every two months, we walk around the neighbourhood on our neighbourhood inspections to check how things are going. We’d love you to come along to help point out issues and share ideas face‑to‐face. We’ll then make a note and take the actions away.
Pride in Place funding for Longsight
Pride in Place is a major 10-year Government programme investing 20 million in neighbourhoods across the UK that need it most. Longsight has been chosen as one of the areas to receive funding to improve the area.
We’re already working with Manchester City Council through Pride in Place to look after green spaces, tackle fly‑tipping, and improve local paths so they’re
safer, cleaner and more welcoming for everyone.
We’ll keep you informed on this exciting work as it progresses and will be reaching out to hear your trhoughts and would love to hear your thoughts on other areas of focus.

"We want to see more of One Manchester staff."
We're doing:
We’re busy making improvements so we can spend more time in your neighbourhood. This includes:
- More Neighbourhood Officers - You told us you want to see us around more often, so we’ve added an extra Neighbourhood Officer to the team. We’ve also reshaped our patches across the region, which means we now have 9 Neighbourhood Officers and 1 Senior Officer. This gives each officer a smaller, more manageable area, helping them be more visible, more available, and better able to support you.
- Tenancy Experience Visits - We visit you in your home at least once every two years for your Tenancy Experience Visit. These visits are a chance for us to get to know you better, understand how things are going in your home, and talk about any support you might need. It’s a simple way for us to stay connected and make sure you’re getting the right help.
- Opening a new Neighbourhood Hub near you - We’re also planning to open an additional Community Hub at Longsight Library to make it easier for local residents to access our services. We’re working on this behind the scenes at the moment and will keep you updated as plans progress.
