Support and Compassion from our One Money team

Posted 16 Jun 2021

With many people not aware of the benefits they are entitled to, our One Money team are on hand to offer free advice to One Manchester tenants.

Tony*, a former senior military officer, found himself suffering from extreme PTSD as well as other complex mental health issues. This caused him to develop severe anger issues as well as a dependency on alcohol and drugs. He was finding it difficult to complete his Personal Independence Payment (PIP) forms, meaning he wasn’t receiving the benefits he needed to support himself.

He had been dropping by into the Place at Platt Lane in Fallowfield, and this is where he met Wayne, one of our Financial Inclusion Officers. Wayne spent several weeks with Tony, getting to know him and helping him to open up about some of the difficulties he was facing.

One of the problems that Tony was having was due to issues with receiving his post. Wayne took it upon himself to personally hand deliver all the documents that Tony needed to ensure he was kept updated about his PIP claim.

We’re proud of the support our Financial Inclusion Team can offer to people who need it, especially the fantastic work of Wayne and the one-to-one support he has provided. He went above and beyond to gain Tony’s trust and support him to confront some of the problems he was experiencing.

If you need money or benefits advice from our One Money team, they are available to speak to you with a wide range of specialist support. The team can help with benefits, debt, budgeting, water meters, contents insurance, saving energy and bank accounts.
