Cost of living – Government financial support

Posted 22 Jul 2022

We know the cost of living crisis is affecting everyone, which is why we want to highlight some of the financial support that is available from the Government. Over the coming weeks/months we will be posting more information on support available so please keep checking in.

The cost of living crisis

The cost of living crisis is when the increase in the cost of food, bills, utilities, fuel and household essentials, outweighs the increase in wage and benefits.

Support available

  • £650 cost of living payment

Some of our residents may know that the Government are giving those entitled to certain benefits and tax credits a payment of £650 to help with the cost of living.

If you are eligible to receive this payment you should see the first payment of £326 come into your bank account from the 14  July.  The second payment of £324 will be made in the Autumn.

We have been told that these payments will begin reaching bank accounts from the 14 July but some payments may be delayed due to the volume of cases, meaning they may not arrive until the end of the month. For people claiming tax credits only, they will receive their payments much later.

Unfortunately, One Manchester are not able to advise on the exact date of this payment and are unable to chase payments on behalf of our residents.

Residents claiming any of the following may be eligible to receive the payment:

  • Universal Credit
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
  • Income-related Employment
  • Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Income Support
  • Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit
  • Working Tax Credit
