One Manchester is celebrating after beating off competition from housing providers across the UK to scoop the ‘Team of the Year’ award at the national TPAS Awards 2016 which took place in Warwickshire.
The TPAS Awards celebrate the successes and hard work of tenants and landlords in the social housing sector in improving lives and bringing real and long-lasting change in communities.
One Manchester’s Opportunities Team won the award for the range of support it offers customers and local residents. This includes: help into training or work or to set-up or grow a new business; opportunities to enjoy different cultural opportunities in the city through our work with places like Home and The Royal Exchange; and a wide range of activities for children and young people to help them gain new skills and confidence.
Selina Haye is one of many One Manchester customers who have benefited from the work of our Opportunities Team. Selina, 29, from Moss Side, had graduated from university but was struggling to find work and didn’t know who to turn to for advice and guidance.
Selina said: “If I hadn’t have got involved with all the Youth Network activities and been supported to do the childcare course with Big Life Nurseries, I wouldn’t be employed, I wouldn’t have been able to keep my car on the road, clothe my daughter and improve my quality of life in the way I have. The opportunities that I’ve had through One Manchester have literally been life-changing.”
One Manchester’s Group Director of Communities, Angela Salami, said: “Winning this national award is testament to the hard work of the Opportunities Team and One Manchester’s determination to provide a whole range of opportunities for our communities. Being able to connect all of these different offers and tailor them to meet the different needs of our customers is making a real difference to people’s lives and that’s what we’re about.”
Tpas Chief Executive Jenny Osbourne said: “The shortlisted finalists for this year’s TPAS awards were exceptional. Every single nomination demonstrated how landlords and tenants working together can achieve fantastic, positive results for their communities. Our huge congratulations to One Manchester who impressed the judges with the wide range of services they are providing to meet the needs of tenants and local people.”
