We know that saving water can save you money too, and if you are on a water meter this can really help with both.
Having a water meter installed in your home could significantly reduce your bill. You can use the United Utilities water calculator to see if you could make a saving based on how much water you currently use.
We’ve been working with United Utilities to make sure you’re aware of the support they have available if you’re struggling with your water bill payments. If you need additional support, they have advice on their website that lists the full range of support schemes they have on offer.
The message from United Utilities is simple – call them on 0800 072 6765, even if you think the schemes shown on their website aren’t suitable, as they may have other ways they can help to get you back on track with your water bills.
Here are some more simple tips from United Utilities on how to save water in your home:
The average shower only uses 30 litres of water, whereas a bath uses 80!
A running tap can use 6 litres of water per minute. By turning off the tap whilst brushing, a family could save £36 per year as well as 17,520 litres of water.
Fully load your dishwasher and washing machine every time you use it. Each cycle uses up to 100 litres of water.
This will save both energy and water.
Instead of using a hosepipe to wash your car, why not use a bucket and sponge! A hosepipe can use 1,000 litres of water per hour.
This can reduce the amount of water wasted by up to 50%.
United Utilities even have some free water saving gadgets that you can access; visit their website to find out more. Some of their customers need a bit of extra support at times, and it could be due to anything from age, ill health, a disability or mental-health problems to financial worries or language barriers.
The United Utilities Priority Services is here to help those customers, and allow us to respond quickly and considerately to their particular needs.
