We’re proud to announce that One Manchester is taking part in the 2019 Manchester Pride Festival this year, supporting the continued campaign for equality and acceptance.
Members of our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) group will be featured on a float in the parade, riding on a huge dumper truck generously provided by one of our contractors, Casey, which will be decked out to fit the theme of Deep Space Pride: A Future World of Equality.
Our involvement in the parade comes at the same time we’ve launched our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy for the business, which outlines how we deliver and enact our commitments to EDI when it comes to our employees and our customers.
To find out more about why EDI is so important to One Manchester, we spoke to Stephen Close, one of our Caretaker team.
Pride is a celebration of equality and acceptance, paying respect to all those who campaigned for equal rights and changes in the law.
It’s important that we make everyone aware of the trouble LGBTQ+ people have gone through. Things are getting better, but there’s still so much to do, and an established organisation such as One Manchester showing support for the cause will help make more people aware.
There are still people with views than aren’t in favour of the LGBTQ+ community. People need to feel confident enough to speak out if they hear homophobic comments or language and having a strategy in place can help people do that. Publishing an official Equality, Diversity and Inclusion strategy which is in line with our seven business strategies shows One Manchester’s dedication to supporting everyone – from employees to customers – no matter who they are.
