The Warm Home Discount Scheme could help you to save money on your electric bills during the colder months.
This is a government scheme that gives extra help to people struggling with their energy bills. It's regulated by Ofgem and if you're eligible you'll get a one-off annual rebate to help with your energy bill.
The money is not actually paid to you, instead it is a one-off discount on your electricity bill, between the months of September and March. You might also be able to get the discount on your gas bill instead if your supplier provides you with both gas and electricity.
We'd recommend that you get in contact your supplier to find out.
Applications for the discount scheme are now open and, once they are full, they will close - so act fast!
There are two ways to qualify for the Warm Home Discount Scheme:
- You get the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit - known as the ‘core group’
- You’re on a low income and meet your energy supplier’s criteria for the scheme - known as the ‘broader group’.
How you apply for the Warm Home Discount Scheme depends on how you qualify for the discount.
You can find out more about the Warm Home Discount Scheme, and check if you qualify by visiting their website, where you can also search the list of energy providers to see if your provider offers this
