Avoiding scams

A scam is a fraudulent attempt by a person or group of people to get money or payment from you by pretending to be an official organisation.

Scammers work by getting you to reveal your personal details, stealing your information, or even getting you to willingly hand over the cash. It's important to know the warning signs to look out for and what to do if you have, or think you have, been targeted.

The Money and Pensions Service have produced a lot of useful information. Check out the links on the side of the page for more information about how to avoid scams or what to do if you think you have been scammed.
