Housing and community services provider One Manchester will be hitting the road on Monday 24 April to capture the public’s views on the housing challenges facing the people of Manchester and their thoughts on what could be done locally to help.
Those working and living in Manchester can expect to find a striking, branded video-diary VW Campervan stopping at locations across the city, between 9am and 5pm, and residents are invited to step on board to give their opinions and experience of renting or getting on the housing ladder here.
It’s all part of the #GMHousing campaign led by the National Housing Federation (NHF) which is calling on the mayoral candidates to make housing a top priority and work with organisations like One Manchester to tackle Greater Manchester’s housing crisis.
The campaign follows on from the NHF’s recent Home Truths report which showed the average house price in Greater Manchester to be £169,893 – seven times the average income of Greater Manchester residents.
Dave Power, chief executive of One Manchester, said: “We believe all Greater Manchester residents should be able to live in a good quality home that they are able to afford. The views of people in this city are very important to us, in helping ensure we can meet the needs of everyone in the community including people experiencing difficulties in the private rented sector and working people struggling to get on the housing ladder.
“I think it’s great to have the opportunity to interact directly with the residents of Manchester and I hope that people will take the chance to visit us at one of our designated stops and help us think about how we can work with the future mayor and other stakeholders in the city to meet the needs of future and existing customers.”
The campervan will be stopping at the following locations:
